Academic Educational Psychology

The Academic Educational Psychology Masters degree is designed to provide broad-based preparation in the field, as well as an opportunity to develop a specialization in an area of Educational Psychology.

This area of specialty concentration allows flexibility across all areas of know ledge of educational psychology. It also provides basic understanding or increased proficiency in research methods and psychometrics according to student needs and interests. To achieve breadth, students take one primary course in each of the five Domains. Other course work is designed to permit students to specialize in an area of Educational Psychology or to extend their general understanding of diverse topics in related fields. Prerequisite knowledge and Primary Domain courses in statistics and tests and measurement assure students a basic understanding of research sufficient to support their Master's Report leading to an MEd Students who wish to carry out and report the results of an empirical study as a Master's Thesis, leading to an MA, are required, at a minimum, to complete a second course in both Domains I and 2 (Research Methods and Data Analysts and Psychometric Theory, and Methods).

This specialization is intended for people for whom the information, insights, and approaches conveyed will be useful in their life and work in educational and educationally-oriented settings. It is not intended to train or to certify people to provide psychological services, so courses designed for this purpose are nor included as part of the curriculum. Students may take one practicum course, with instructor’s consent, to learn firsthand about the applied aspects of educational psychology.
