From Dissertation Proposal Meeting to Final Oral

With approval from your committee at the dissertation proposal meeting, you are ready to carry through with the data collection and analyses for your dissertation. It is expected that you will continue to do so under the close supervision of your faculty sponsor. Students are not allowed to begin data collection in connection with their dissertation until they have conducted a successful dissertation proposal meeting.

Prior to the collection of any data, the student researcher (sponsored by a faculty member) must have completed all the steps of the review process and received formal approval from the Office of Research Support and Compliance (RSC). Researchers should become familiar with the Institutional Review Board Procedures Manual for Faculty, Staff and Student Researchers with Human Participants.

In order to safeguard the rights and welfare of subjects who may be at risk through participation in such activities (including both funded and non-funded research), the Institutional Review Board (IRB) conducts reviews for the RSC.
