Prospectus Submission Schedule

The schedule from submission of prospectus through oral examination for students who turn in their prospectus to the Graduate Adviser on or before the due date is:

Prospectus Title and Description. The titles and descriptions (less than 100 words) are due the third Tuesday in August and the first Thursday in January. The Graduate Coordinator compiles the information and sends it (without student names) to GSC faculty, who rate each summary based on ability to serve on the committee. The ratings are then given with the summaries to the Graduate Adviser, who will use this information to select appropriate faculty for students' prospectus evaluation committees.

Prospectus Due Date. Monday of the second full week of the semester in which the prospectus is due

Prospectus Written Examination. To be held on Friday of the third full week of classes

Prospectus Oral Examination. To be held by Wednesday of the sixth full week of the semester

Prospectus Evaluation Committee Report and Recommendation. To be delivered by the prospectus adviser to the Graduate Adviser immediately following the oral examination

GSC Vote. The Report and Recommendation of the evaluation committee is presented and acted on by the GSC approximately 6-7 weeks from the onset of the semester.

The prospectus must be submitted on the mandatory due date regardless of its stage of completion. There are no exceptions to this policy. It is not possible to take an X (temporary delay of grade) in EDP 396T. With prior permission of the Graduate Adviser, students may, under most circumstances, submit their prospectus at an earlier prospectus deadline. To do this, students must first obtain the approval of the prospectus adviser, and forward that approval with an e-mail request to the Graduate Adviser at least three weeks prior to the beginning of the semester in which the student intends to turn in the propectus.

The rubrics used in evaluating students’ prospectuses are included as Appendix E.
